We have tweaked the title of our next book and taken 2012 out of the title… as much as I’d love to focus on 2012 and the magic around it, my editorial team and I decided that this book is so special already that taking the “2012″ out of the title really allowed us to help women with transitions for years to come. I just got back from my third conference in a row led by a successful female entrepreneur in the last few weeks. All three were powerful women and they each expanded my mind as well as attracting very Smart Women to the conference for me to meet and connect with… and all three were competitors. Which led me to thinking about another difference between the way men and women do business. I think that one of the reasons men often move faster and father in their businesses financially is because they really don’t spend time criticizing each other. They are too busy thinking of ways to make money. I hang out with male and female entrepreneurs and I often have more in common with the men when it comes to conversation style and certainly substance. So I just thought I would share my insight and experience with you in hopes that next time you begin to pull apart something a female entrepreneur is doing, instead you will stop and think how awesome she is for being brave and paving the way for all women. Of course she isn’t like you and of course you won’t get everything she is doing. That is what makes us each unique. Just like Madeleine Albright (Former US Secretary of State) said, “There is a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.”

What is a WHY? It is the inner yearning in your soul that keeps you going. It is what helps you navigate the next three steps even when you can’t see what they are. It makes you smile and at its very essence, it is hope. It is a knowing of your purpose and more importantly being able to live it each day in some little or big way.

As you might have guessed, WHYs are never about just you and they always affect others. That’s what makes a WHY so important. If you have a WHY, you can create more positive change in the world.

In my work with women entrepreneurs, I’ve learned that the best way to help them along their entrepreneurial journeys to financial independence is to encourage them to seek, discover, and live their WHYs. I’ve taught classes on it, written books on it, and talk about it in most of my consulting sessions. It is that important.

A Few Questions to Help You Along Your WHY Journey

What is the reason I want to be financially independent?

If you never had to work for money again, what would you do each day for the rest of your life?

What truly drives me and excites me?

What activities make time disappear when I am doing them?

Spending time to really answer these questions deeply and explore where you are at right now and where your heart is telling you to go right now is how you move forward on the journey. This same process helps you not only get started on the journey, but these are the same questions you should revisit along the journey as you change. The answers to the questions will change as you grow into A New Way of Being. And you must put pen to paper to answer these questions. The physical process of pulling the answers out of your head into the physical realm anchors them and makes the journey real.

One thing that excites me about the journey is the fact that I get to change and innovate all the time and that I get to keep discovering my next WHY. Your reason WHY will evolve as you evolve. When you achieve your reason why, be in the moment of it and it enjoy it completely. Even celebrate it with others often. Then, move on to your next WHY.

Dear Smart Women,

How are you? I haven’t been able to work much this week because I am having a blast spending time with the kids. I just love the freedom of owning your own business and being the boss. As long as you keep the machine running and have built scalable passive parts in the business, you absolutely can take off a lot and still make way more money than those trading hours for dollars. As many of you know this is my passion–helping women really believe (because you have to do that first!) that this is possible and then showing them exactly how to do it. Is it work? YES. Is it worth it to work really hard for a few years doing the right things to reap the rewards for decades? Another big YES.

Anyway… I get passionate about my WHY. Back to the kids. On Monday, I took my oldest daughter to Texas State University so she could tour the campus. We had a blast. I went there back in the early 90s so I know the campus pretty well. Here are some pictures of out self-guided tour (aka The Fun Tour). Then yesterday was movie day and today, we head to Sea World. We are packing a lot into this week because my 9 year old nephew is in town and I want him to go home thinking I am the best aunt in the world of course.

I hope you enjoy this week’s video, Smart Women Self Care. I just finished reading two pre-publication books and they both deal with self care so I wanted to give you a little preview and some tips too.

And I chose this week’s article on transformation because it occurred to me earlier this week when I heard about Borders going out of business this year (along with the space program, Oprah show, and Blockbusters and many more I am forgetting) that business isn’t about marketing as much as it is about constantly transforming. I know many of you have heard, “If you’re in business, you are in the business of marketing.” Yes, marketing (getting our message out there) is so important, but if we aren’t willing to completely transform ourselves and our businesses all the time as our customers and subscribers are constantly transforming, then we will eventually go out of business. So the message here is that you need to be flexible and imperfect and play in your business to survive the decades in front of you. Had Blockbuster or Borders done that, they might still be around. Would love to hear your thoughts on all of this on our blog.

• 1500 to 2000 words (usually about 3 to 5 pages)

  • Inspiration on how you became successful and key points that you believe would inspire other women
  • How to balance your life and your business
  • Time management tips that help women stay sane and on purpose

History of the Smart Women SERIES ^TM

The Smart Women SERIES ^TM has a inspiring track record. Our 2010 book, Smart Women Live Their Why for instance reached No. 11 on Amazon over all at launch and then was the only female authored book in the top 25 books in business. Sheri McConnell, the managing editor of this years book was the past CEO of the National Association of Women Writers for over 10 years.

Launch Details

Our latest book is due to be launched on September 1, 2011 and should start shipping no later than September 15, 2011.

This year’s book will be launched at the same time we start our 30 day virtual event happening from September 1 – September 30th!

All authors also have the opportunity to participate in our Virtual Conference and Expo which will have audio and video components to it this year.

In addition to the initial 30 day launch and the book being included in the basic level of registration at the virtual event, we will be adding this book to our Smart Women Catalog and website, and Sheri McConnell (CEO) will launch another PR campaign to promote book in the Fall.

And finally as an author, you agree to send one solo email regarding the book to your entire list in the month of September.

• We will provide the solo email and you may add to it to personalize (Note: when you pay the fee below, you are agreeing to this broadcast in September. We will also include a copy of this agreement in writing and require signatures as we move forward into production process.)
• We will have anywhere from 30 to a maximum of 40 authors promoting in month of September.

All authors will pay a one time fee of $597. Registration fee should be paid ASAP to hold your spot in the book. Submission deadline is July 15, 2011.
